Conference/Camp Meeting

There's been a lot going on at The Village Church and things are starting back up at Okavango International School on Monday. Last week, the bulk of our time was spent at church at our annual conference.

Matt designed the posters and flyers for the meeting.

The theme was transformation. (The color scheme is taken directly from the Botswana flag.)

We had some awesome speakers join us for conference.

Dr. David Molapo, a South African currently living in Jackson, Mississippi, and a well known speaker here in Africa and successful business man, encouraged us as a staff and really spoke to both Matt and I where we were at. We're thankful for the opportunity to learn under him.

Rev. Pearl Kupe also attended and gave a special message to the women on Saturday morning, and addressed the congregation on Sunday morning. She is a highly successful native of Botswana who loves Jesus and loves to share about it!

Our final speaker came all the way from Australia! Pastor Steve Janes leads one of the many C3 churches which are popping up all over the world. He shared on the final day of conference, challenging all of us to change our mindset about the church. He reminded us that our pastors are not there to entertain us, but to empower us to be the ministers to those near us (at our jobs, our neighbors, etc.) throughout the week. He challenged us to be the ones who bring the Gospel outside the church. It was a great note to end on.

Our head pastors and the founders of Love Botswana Outreach Mission are Jerry and Jana Lackey. If you don't know them, they are a couple with very big hearts and a big vision for the country of Botswana. We're thankful for the platform they've given us here to make a difference in the lives of the young people of Maun.

The children even had their part in the conference. They did a puppet presentation and sang some songs. Thank you to Ms. Pat Lackey for the many days of dedicated practice she put in with them!

It was so nice to sit in the service together. The praise and worship team did a great job. If you've never experienced the excitement and energy of African praise, you really should make it a life goal. It's awesome!

The tent was full with people from The Village Church's church plants all the way up to Namibia.
