Feelin Like a Proud Parent
2 Posted: Nov 9th at 3:51 AMAll week I've been feeling like a proud parent, or "popping my buttons" as my daddy would say. I'm so proud of our youth leadership team!
Matt and I, along with a gal named Andrea who works with us, started a discipleship program for 11 youth leaders that we handpicked this term. God layed each one on our hearts - it is made of 6 girls, 5 boys, 6 students who board at the school, and 5 who live in Maun. The ages range from 8th grade to post-high school. It is a fantastic group. The reason I am so proud of them is that they have soaked up all the leadership training and Biblical challenges we have given them and it has been a joy to watch them grow. As the conclusion to the 10 week program, the kids were in charge of planning and running a Fire by Night service (our Friday night youth group program).
They planned and were so eager to participate. We had a worship team, a great welcome, testimonies from the youth, and 2 strong messages. We even saw students from the team step up to corral their fellow students who were wandering and talking during messages and help them back to the tent and to focus on what God was doing. The absolute best part of the evening was prayer time. We had 8 youth available at the front to pray with their peers and after a 1 minute lull, nearly the whole crowd got up for prayer. My eyes began to water as I saw students embracing other students and going before the Father. Our leadership team preached truth to their peers and grabbed their hands in prayer and for the first time I really understood why my dad would say he was popping his buttons over us. My eyes welled up and all I could do was praise the Lord.
God is doing a great work here. We truly believe that Friday night was a big night of turnaround. Matt and I even got to pray during the conclusion of the service with a couple key students who we have been praying would surrender to God. We're so excited about what God is doing! Keep praying! God is good.
